Head teacher who faked doctor's notes to avoid work can take up new school job
The Leytonstone head teacher faced a teacher disciplinary hearing
Good afternoon everyone and welcome to another edition of E17,
The former head teacher at a Waltham Forest school has been told she will not be disqualified from teaching after she created false doctor’s notes in order to justify extended sick leave.
Grainne Smyth, who was head of Leytonstone School from 2014 until she was removed from the role in 2019, had been struggling with undisclosed health problems at the time, and provided representations stating since has taken steps to better manage her problems.
The Teaching Regulation Authority (TRA) has decided against disqualifying her from teaching again.
Also in today’s edition, we visited a Walthamstow bakery so popular that people travel from all over London to pick up their favourite sweet treats.
Thanks for your support and we’ll be back next week,
Team E17
