'I'm a dad and I was diagnosed with breast cancer'
'Not even my pharmacist knew men could get it'
Good afternoon everyone,
Welcome to today’s E17 newsletter. Today we bring you an emotional interview with a Walthamstow dad-of-five who was diagnosed with breast cancer, and has spoken out about what it’s like to live with the illness.
Around 400 men are diagnosed with breast cancer every year, and Doug has shared his experiences - including when his own pharmacist didn’t think that men could get the illness.
"The pharmacist then said really loudly: ‘This can’t be for you, it’s for women with breast cancer’. I said to him ‘Men can get breast cancer too mate’."
Also in today’s newsletter, we’ve got news of an exciting Bonfire Night light show coming to Walthamstow, and why the area is supposedly one of the best in the UK for raising a family.
Thanks for your support as always - we’ll be back next Friday.
