The former plumber who now runs Walthamstow's loved pie and mash shop
Tommy Barnard, 45, is hoping to build a legacy in Walthamstow
Good afternoon everyone,
It’s been amazing. I’ve had people travel here from Australia, as many come all the way up here when they come to London
For the last five years, Barney's Pie and Mash Shop has been one of Walthamstow’s major success stories. Locals have fallen in love with the traditional establishment, with customers coming from far to try out its delicacies.
In today’s newsletter, we talk to Plumber-turned-shop owner Tommy Barnard about his raving success, and why keeping the shop as a local institution is so important to him.
Also today, we have a tour around the Walthamstow café that used to receive just two customers a day now has queues of people waiting to get in after going viral overnight.
